Billy Blue Named by MTV as Artist to Look Out For
Young Poe Boy Artist set to break out in 2009

Miami, FL (Rap Newswire) – This past week MTV has been immersing itself in ‘Miami Week’, focusing on all of the positives that the South Florida hotspot has to bring to the music world. Known as the Renaissance City, Miami is a place like no other and has been making great strides in the music industry over recent years. While MTV News focused much of their praise towards big names such as Rick Ross, Pitbull, and DJ Khaled, they also showed a refreshing sign in showcasing some of the upstart talent that the city has to offer. Five notable names were mentioned among artists to look out for in the near future; Brisco, Gunplay, Ball Greezy, Ice Berg, and last but not least, Billy Blue.

While all five talents bring a different blend of style and charisma to the stage it is Billy Blue’s story that is making the biggest impact as of yet. Just a year ago Blue was an unknown commodity, struggling to get by in the world while wondering if the big time dreams he possessed would ever see the light of day. Through hard work, sheer will, and a hustling attitude, Blue stayed close to the music and eventually doors began opening for him. Poe Boy Music Group would soon hear his sound and from there a connection was made. Blue would unite with the record label and would begin his rollercoaster journey in the industry.

Through the buzz created by his mix tapes to his tireless work ethic in the studio, Blue began emerging as someone to look out for and has landed joint ventures with Akon’s Konvict Music and Timbaland’s Mosley Music Group, in association with Interscope Records. Heavy pressure was immediately placed on Blue’s shoulder to perform and this past Memorial Day served as somewhat of a coronation for the street wise Miami native.

Blue’s mix tape ’36 Reasons’ was officially released for the music world to hear and the buzz over the album within the city was immense. Blue would perform to sold out audiences at various club shows over Memorial Weekend and those close to the artist could almost begin to see firsthand how far his progression has lead him. All of these facts are the exact reasons that MTV selected Blue as one of Miami’s premier talents on the rise. Outside of his undeniable talent lies the story of a man determined to tell things the way he has lived them, as opposed to painting a picture that everyone else is accustomed to.

"It's about being you. Spitting what you lived," Blue said recently of his persona as a musician. "Telling people, 'I'm just like you. I'm an ordinary nigga. Had a 9-to-5. I sold drugs, went to jail, been on parole, [have] f---ed up baby mamas. I been through it like everybody in the world been through it. This world is ours. Let's make it happen.' "

When pressed further by MTV on his standing in the game, Blue is both respectful and strikingly blunt when assessing everything he and his fellow South Florida upstarts bring to the table. He knows the places and experiences he came from are the foundation of who he is and he is dead set to never forget that.

“We’re the young generation bringing you what you aint heard,” he bellowed. “We’re the kids of the streets. We were birthed on this concrete. We’re the young generation that came out of the crevice of the concrete. When you ‘hood, you good’. You know that.”

While he will always be true to his roots, there is no denying that Billy Blue is entering completely new territory in his life as an artist and a person. All the struggles he experienced early on helped him build a ruthless determination that has now saw him cross over as he has began experiencing the richer side of the game. From the early buzz on his mix tape, to MTV calling him out as someone to watch out for, to the much anticipated debut of his solo album, which is to be produced by Akon and Timbaland, it’s obvious that Blue is headed in the right direction. Stay tuned for more…
